Cryptops hortensis Donovan, 1810 measures 20–30 millimetres (0.79–1.18 inches) in length and 1 millimetre (0.039 inches) in width. This species is pale brown and has 21 pairs of legs. Across Europe, it occurs in all regions except the Baltic states, Andorra, Belarus, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Moldova, Russia, Vatican City, and various European islands. It has also been introduced to Tasmania, Australia. It can be found in gardens, woodland, and under stones and logs.
