About Cryptophasa porphyritis Turner, 1906

Cryptophasa porphyritis is a species of moth belonging to the family Xyloryctidae. It was first described by Alfred Jefferis Turner in 1906. This moth is found in Australia, and has only been recorded in Queensland. Its wingspan measures approximately 46 mm. The forewings are pale purple, speckled with reddish-brown scales, whitish scales, and a small number of blackish scales. From the base to the middle section, the costa is fuscous. The base, from below the costa along the dorsum to one-sixth of the wing length, is broadly white. There is a blackish discal dot beyond the middle of the forewing, and a triangular white spot on the costa at the three-fourths mark, which is followed by two tiny white dots before the apex. A subterminal line of blackish dots is outlined by reddish-brown, and there is a terminal row of reddish-brown dots. The hindwings are dark fuscous.
