About Cryptocheilus australis (Guérin-Méneville, 1830)

The scientific name of this species is Cryptocheilus australis (Guérin-Méneville, 1830). Adult individuals of this species are a rich reddish yellow color, which is how it got its common or vernacular name: golden spider wasp. Females measure between 16–22 mm (0.63–0.87 in) in length, while males measure 11.6–18.5 mm (0.46–0.73 in) in length. This species is native to Tasmania and south-eastern Australia, and it has been introduced to New Zealand, where it is currently found in the area between North Cape and Auckland.
