About Cryptocentrus fasciatus (Playfair, 1867)

The Y-bar shrimpgoby, scientifically named Cryptocentrus fasciatus, is a species of goby. It has a wide distribution across the Indo-West-Pacific, ranging from East Africa to Melanesia and the Great Barrier Reef. This species lives on reefs at depths between 5 and 20 metres (16 to 66 feet), where it occupies burrows in sandy substrates. It forms a symbiotic relationship with alpheid shrimps. The species can grow up to 14 centimetres (5.5 inches) in total length, and it is available in the aquarium trade.
