About Cryptantha leiocarpa (Fisch. & C.A.Mey.) Greene
Cryptantha leiocarpa, a species of flowering plant in the borage family, is commonly known as coastal cryptantha. It is native to the coastline of Oregon and California, where it grows in sandy areas including beaches. This small annual herb produces an erect, hairy, bristly branching stem that reaches a maximum height around 30 centimeters. Longer stems droop and trail along the ground. Its linear leaves measure 1 to 3 centimeters long and are covered in rough hairs. The plant produces small, tight clusters of white five-lobed flowers with yellow centers, with tiny bristly sepals located beneath the flowers.
