This species is distributed across eastern Australia, Norfolk Island, and New Zealand. It is common in south-eastern Australia. It was first officially documented in New Zealand in 2000, though it may have existed in the country since the 1980s. It is typically found in rocky areas, caves, or in sheltered eaves and porches of human-built habitats.
