About Crypsedra gemmea Treitschke, 1825
Scientific name: Crypsedra gemmea Treitschke, 1825. Technical description and variation: C. gemmea Tr. (32 f) superficially resembles L. viridana. Both species share the same olive-brown ground colour and black and white markings. However, in C. gemmea the orbicular stigma is always round rather than irregular in shape. The claviform stigma matches the ground colour, has a black edge, sometimes holds a few whitish scales, and has an ordinary rather than triangular shape. The costal area is sprinkled with white scales. The submarginal line is white, preceded by black dentate marks. The fringe is brown with fine white chequering. In both sexes, the hindwing is brownish grey, paler towards the base, with a dark cellspot and dark veins. The larva is glossy bluish or greenish grey, with black tubercles that each carry a single pale hair. The larva's head, thoracic plates, and anal plates are black brown. Forewings measure 16–20 mm in length.
