About Crudaria leroma (Wallengren, 1857)

Crudaria leroma, commonly known as the silver-spotted grey, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Lycaenidae. This species is distributed in south-western Africa, with confirmed occurrences in Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa. Within South Africa, it can be found across the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, and Gauteng provinces. The wingspan of C. leroma ranges from 20 to 32 millimeters for males, and from 25 to 34 millimeters for females. Adult butterflies are active year-round in warmer regions of the species' range, while they are only active between October and March in cooler regions. The larvae of C. leroma feed on Acacia karroo, Acacia sieberana, and Elephantorrhiza burkei.
