About Crotalus aquilus Klauber, 1952

This species, Crotalus aquilus, reaches a maximum reported total length of 67.8 cm (26.7 in). Most adult individuals are heavy-bodied and less than 50 cm (20 in) long. It is found in the highlands of central Mexico, specifically in the states of Guanajuato, Hidalgo, México, Michoacán, and San Luis Potosí. Its documented type locality is "near Alvarez, San Luis Potosí, Mexico". This snake occurs in open grassy, generally rocky habitats located north of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. It can also be found in pine-oak forest, open karstic areas, grassy mountain meadows, and stony mesquite-grassland.
