About Crocanthes prasinopis Meyrick, 1886
Crocanthes prasinopis is a species of moth belonging to the family Lecithoceridae. It is found across most of Australia and in New Guinea. The wingspan of this moth ranges from 13 to 15 millimeters (0.51 to 0.59 inches). Its forewings are a fairly deep yellow, marked with ochreous-fuscous patterns that have purple reflections. A costal streak runs from the base of the forewing to two-fifths of the wing length, and a patch covers the terminal half of the wing. The anterior edge of this patch is straight or, rarely, bent and irregular; it is dark fuscous, extending from the middle of the costa to beyond the middle of the dorsum, and encloses a roundish, suffused central deep yellow blotch. The hindwings are whitish-yellow, suffused with fuscous on their posterior portion, and grow darker toward the apex. There is a dark grey transverse discal mark on the hindwings. The larvae of Crocanthes prasinopis feed on moist dead gum leaves found in leaf litter. Young larvae are pink, while later larval instars are brown. Pupation occurs in leaf litter, between two leaves, inside a silken shelter covered with hairs and detritus.
