About Crithagra frontalis (Reichenow, 1904)

The western citril, which also goes by the common name yellow-browed citril, has the scientific name Crithagra frontalis. It is a finch species that belongs to the family Fringillidae, and it is found in central Africa. This species was previously classified in the genus Serinus. However, phylogenetic analysis conducted with mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences revealed that the genus Serinus was polyphyletic. As a result, the genus was split, and the western citril was one of multiple species moved to the resurrected genus Crithagra.
