About Crinum americanum L.

Crinum americanum L. is a perennial bulb plant that can reach up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) in total height. It produces simple leaves that grow up to 4 ft (1.2 m) long and 3 in (7.6 cm) wide. Its flowers are fragrant, lily-shaped, with white petals that sometimes have a faint pink blush. The plant's flower stem grows up to 3 ft (0.91 m) tall, and bears umbels containing two to six flowers. The upper portion of the stamens is purple, and the anthers are also purple. This species is native to North America, ranging from Texas to South Carolina in the United States, as well as Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands. It grows in freshwater marshes, cypress swamps, and along the edges of lakes.
