About Cribrinopsis fernaldi Siebert & Spaulding, 1976

Cribrinopsis fernaldi is a large sea anemone that may be crimson red, orange, or white. This species has zigzag transverse lines on its tentacles, white tubercles on its column, and spherules located just below the tentacles. These spherules are often withdrawn, which makes them especially hard to see. The column of Cribrinopsis fernaldi can grow up to 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter and around 25 cm (10 inches) high. Its oral disk has yellow or pink lines that radiate out from the mouth to the margin, and these lines can be difficult to see in dark red individuals. Cribrinopsis fernaldi is found in the area stretching from the Gulf of Alaska to Washington. It lives strictly in subtidal zones, down to a depth of 300 m (980 ft).
