About Crataegus sanguinea Pall.
Crataegus sanguinea Pall., commonly called redhaw hawthorn or Siberian hawthorn, is a species of hawthorn. It is native to southern Siberia, Mongolia, and the extreme north of China. This plant is cultivated for its edible red berry-like structure, which is actually a pome. The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked, and it can be used to make jam, jelly, and fruit preserves. It is also grown as an ornamental plant in gardens. It produces small white flowers that grow in clusters, and these flowers give off a carrion smell. The world's largest living individual of this species is located in Volunteer Park, Seattle, Washington.
