About Crassula biplanata Haw.
Crassula biplanata Haw. is a small, branching, succulent perennial plant that grows up to 30 cm tall. Its stems are approximately 0.4 cm in diameter, with distinctive papillose internodes. It produces tiny, gray-green, lanceolate leaves, which turn a more silver color when grown in direct sunlight. Delicate tubular white flowers grow in clusters during late summer, and the petals are characteristically long, measuring 4 to 6 mm. This species occurs in mountainous areas stretching from near Franschhoek in the west, through the Little Karoo and Overberg regions, to as far east as Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It typically grows in shallow soil on rocky ledges, or in very rocky soil on lower mountain slopes. It can also sometimes be found in rock cracks within mountain ranges at higher altitudes. Plants growing in exposed locations are smaller, often decumbent, and may be covered in a dense silvery waxy powder.
