About Crassisporium funariophilum (M.M.Moser) Matheny, P.-A.Moreau & Vizzini
The cap of Crassisporium funariophilum is 1-3 centimeters in diameter, with a convex or flat shape, and is sometimes broadly umbonate. Its cap color ranges from reddish-brown to ochre. The stipe measures approximately 2-5 centimeters long and 2-4 millimeters wide, and bears a cortina that develops into a stipe ring zone as it ages. The gills may be seceding, adnate, or sinuate; they start yellowish brown and turn orangish as the mushroom matures. This species produces a reddish brown spore print. Crassisporium funariophilum fruits in spring, after snow melts. It grows on burnt soil left after wildfires, and often fruits near Pholiota molesta, Pholiota carbonaria, and Psathyrella pennata.
