About Craspedocephalus rubeus (Malhotra, Thorpe, Mrinalini & Stuart, 2011)
Craspedocephalus rubeus (previously published under the scientific name Trimeresurus rubeus), commonly called the ruby-eyed green pitviper, is a venomous pit viper species. This species is endemic to Southeast Asia, and found specifically in southern Vietnam and eastern Cambodia. No subspecies are currently recognized by science. It lives in seasonal tropical forests, including forests that have been lightly disturbed. All known specimens have been recorded at night, in dense vegetation, often located close to fast-flowing streams. The species has been documented only at elevations below 500 meters (1,600 feet) above sea level. While most known populations of this viper live within national parks, it still faces threats from habitat loss, as well as harvesting for use as food and to make snake wine.
