About Crambe crambe (Schmidt, 1862)

Crambe crambe colonies form thin orange to orange-red plates, rarely becoming lobed. Their surface is very rough, and perforated by raised oscula that lie along the exhaling channels. Individual colonies can cover an area of up to 1 m². This species is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea, and also occurs in the North Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel, and the North Sea. It most commonly grows in well-lit waters on hard substrates, at depths between 5 and 30 meters.
