About Costus lucanusianus J.Braun & K.Schum.
Costus lucanusianus J.Braun & K.Schum. is a plant species native to Africa, with a wide distribution across Northeast Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, East Africa, and Southern Tropical Africa. This species is commonly cultivated, and has a variety of traditional medicinal uses. Its rhizomes contain a higher percentage of diosgenin than the rhizomes of Cheilocostus speciosus. Costus lucanusianus is sometimes misidentified as Costus afer. It is also very similar to Costus aureus in its vegetative features, though the two species can be distinguished by their different flower colors.
