About Cosmopepla lintneriana (Kirkaldy, 1909)
Cosmopepla lintneriana, commonly called the twice-stabbed stink bug, is a species of insect belonging to the family Pentatomidae. It was first described in 1798 by Johan Christian Fabricius under the name Cimex carnifex, and was described again in 1865 by Thomas Say under the name Cosmopepla bimaculata. This species feeds and develops on a variety of host plants, which include milk thistle, echinacea, asparagus, oats, mint, and goldenrod. It is widespread across North America, ranging from Canada in the north to Mexico in the south. Adult C. lintneriana have a black body, marked with a red, orange, or yellow band across the pronotum, a short red stripe running along the midline of the body, and two red spots at the apex of the scutellum. Nymphs have coloration that ranges from red to white, paired with black markings that change in appearance as the nymphs grow.
