About Cormobates leucophaea (Latham, 1802)
This species, commonly called the white-throated treecreeper, has a scientific name of Cormobates leucophaea (Latham, 1801). It measures 13โ17 cm (5โ7 in) in length, with a wingspan of 19โ26 cm (7.5โ10.2 in) that averages 23 cm (9.1 in), and an average weight of 22 g (0.8 oz). It has a white throat and breast, with a belly and flanks barred in dark brown and white. Its upperparts and wings are dark greyish brown, and a buff patch is visible on the wings. Unlike other treecreepers, this species does not have a pale eyebrow. Its bill and feet are black. Females have a pale orange-brown patch on the cheek. Immature birds have an orange-brown rump and white markings on the scapulars. Its call is a shrill peeping. The white-throated treecreeper is distributed from Gulf St Vincent in South Australia, through Victoria, eastern New South Wales, and southeastern Queensland, with an additional separate population range further north from Mount Spec to Cooktown. It prefers wet sclerophyll forest and rainforest as its habitat. It is protected in Australia under the National Parks and Wildlife Act, 1974.
