About Corispermum pallasii Steven

Corispermum pallasii Steven, commonly called Pallas bugseed, is a branched herb that grows on sand dunes and other sandy soils. It is apparently native to Siberia, and has become naturalized in Europe, Canada, and the Great Lakes Region of the United States. This species is named after Peter Simon Pallas, who worked as both a botanist and zoologist. It was formally published under the name Corispermum pallasii by Steven in 1817, in the publication Mém. Soc. Imp. Naturalistes Moscou, volume 5, page 336. One recognized subspecies is Corispermum pallasii subsp. membranaceum (Bisch. ex Shnittspalm) Tzvelev, which has the synonym Corispermum membranaceum (Bisch. ex Shnittspalm) Iljin.
