About Corinnomma severum (Thorell, 1877)

This is the original morphological description of Corinnomma severum (Thorell, 1877), compiled from published species descriptions. Per Thorell's original 1877 description of the male, the total body length of the male is approximately 10.5 mm. The male's cephalothorax is nearly twice as long as it is wide, with slightly rounded sides, more rounded angles toward the posterior, and a somewhat narrowed anterior portion. The front width of the cephalothorax is about two-thirds of its maximum width. The height of the clypeus is nearly equal to the length of the area between the median eyes. The male's coloration is distinct: the cephalothorax is black and covered in very fine whitish-gray pubescence. The male's oral parts are black, with black hairs and whitish-pubescent areas. The male's pedipalps are mostly black, and the femoral portion is black. The male's legs are also mostly black with a fine bluish-white covering; all coxae and femora are black. The patellae and all following segments of the first four pairs of legs are faintly testaceous-brown with black lines. The male's abdomen is entirely black, with a bluish-white pubescent band that forms just before the middle of the abdomen, extends upward and forward, and is crossed by a black line. The female of the species was first described by Eugène Simon in 1886 under the name Corinnomma harmandi, from specimens collected in Cambodia and Siam, which is now Thailand. The female has a total body length of approximately 10 mm. The female's cephalothorax is black, subtly and uniformly rugose. It has plumose hairs on its upper surface, yellowish-white hairs on its sides, and is densely covered in fulvous-olivaceous hairs. In the female, the posterior eyes are arranged in a slightly curved line, and the median eyes are spaced more than twice the diameter of the lateral eyes. The female's abdomen is oblong, it gradually thickens toward the posterior and ends in a rounded shape. The upper surface of the abdomen is black, with hard, rugose pale yellowish pubescence, and marked with two faint, transverse olivaceous stripes. The female's sternum is black, rugose, and covered in white hairs. The female's legs are blackish, with white and yellow hairs; the anterior femora in particular have a broad fulvous band. This species has been recorded from India, Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam, Laos, China, the Philippines, and Indonesia (Sumatra and Sulawesi).
