About Cordyline stricta (Sims) Endl.
This species has the scientific name Cordyline stricta (Sims) Endl. Its leaves are long and narrow, measuring 30 to 50 cm in length and 1 to 2 cm in width. Mauve-colored flowers grow on panicles that are 20 to 40 cm long, and the flowering stem itself ranges from 15 to 30 cm in length. The fruits are purple to black, with a diameter of 10 to 15 mm. This is the only Australian species in the Cordyline genus that produces black fruit. In cultivation, Cordyline stricta is widely planted in gardens and commercial landscapes for the ornamental value of its foliage, flower heads, and berries. Its tall, narrow growth habit makes it useful as a screen plant. C. stricta can adapt to a wide range of climates and planting conditions, growing successfully in sites from full sun to full shade. It is moderately drought tolerant once it is well established, but it does not tolerate frost well.
