About Cordycipitaceae
Species within the Cordycipitaceae family produce fleshy stromata or subicula that are either pale or brightly pigmented. Their perithecia range from lying completely on the surface of the substrate to being fully embedded in it, and they are oriented at right angles to the surface of the stroma. The asci are cylindrical, with a thickened tip at the ascus. Ascospores are typically cylindrical, have multiple septa, and either break apart into part-spores or stay intact when they reach maturity.
