Cordulegaster heros, commonly known as the Balkan goldenring, is a species of spiketail dragonfly native to central-eastern Europe. It is classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. This species is endemic to Europe. It is commonly recorded in Slovenia, and can also be found in eastern Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, the Carpathian mountains of Slovakia and Ukraine, and across the entire Balkan region. Its range extends south from Croatia and Romania to Greece, covering both coastal and inland areas. Balkan goldenrings inhabit wetland environments.
