About Cordia myxa L.

Cordia myxa L., commonly known as Sebesten plum, Assyrian plum, Indian cherry, Glue berry, Lasura, or Bambar, is a mid-sized deciduous tree in the family Cordiaceae. It is native to Asia, and grows in warmer regions of Africa and Asia, primarily across Asia and other tropical areas with suitable geophysical conditions. It grows naturally and abundantly from Myanmar in the east to Lebanon and Syria in the west. Its habitat ranges from about 200 metres (660 ft) above mean sea level in the plains up to around 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) in the hills. Due to its many uses, this tree is widely cultivated even in arid zones. The species is indigenous to China, and is widely cultivated in lower plains and tropical regions. While it grows well in deep clay loam and sandy soils, it thrives best in areas with annual rainfall between 100 and 150 centimetres (39 to 59 in). It produces small, edible fruit.
