About Cordia alliodora (Ruiz & Pav.) Oken

Cordia alliodora (Ruiz & Pav.) Oken is a flowering tree species in the Cordiaceae family, native to the American tropics. Its common names include Spanish elm, Ecuador laurel, cypre, and salmwood. This species can grow up to 35 meters tall. Along with other Cordia tree species, it is called bocote in Spanish. Its wood, which has very little distinct grain pattern, is typically sold as freijo or jennywood alongside the wood of Cordia goeldiana. The wood of Cordia alliodora is used for boat decking, furniture, cabinetry, and guitar and bass construction by luthiers, and it is sometimes used as a substitute for mahogany or teak.
