About Coptotriche castaneaeella (Chambers, 1875)

Coptotriche castaneaeella is a species of moth that belongs to the family Tischeriidae. It was originally described by Vactor Tousey Chambers in 1875. This moth is found in the U.S. states of Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia. The larvae of Coptotriche castaneaeella feed on the leaves of nine oak species: Quercus alba, Quercus bicolor, Quercus coccinea, Quercus imbricaria, Quercus marilandica, Quercus phellos, Quercus prinus, Quercus rubra, and Quercus velutina. The larvae create mines within the leaves of their host plants, and these mines take the shape of a trumpet mine.
