About Coprinellus disseminatus (Pers.) J.E.Lange
Coprinellus disseminatus (Pers.) J.E.Lange grows up to 4 centimetres (1 5⁄8 inches) tall. It has a bell-shaped, tannish cap that turns gray as the mushroom ages. This species produces a blackish-brown spore print, and has approximately 143 distinct mating types (sexes).
In terms of distribution and habitat, Coprinellus disseminatus grows on dead wood including rotting stumps. It is widespread across Europe. In North America, it can be found from June to November in eastern regions, and from October to March near the West Coast.
Coprinellus disseminatus is nonpoisonous. It can be eaten either raw or cooked, but does not preserve well. It is considered too small to be of practical food value.
