About Copelatus chevrolati Aubé, 1838

Adults of Copelatus chevrolati Aubé, 1838 measure 5.3 to 6.7 millimetres (0.21 to 0.26 inches) in length, and 2.6 to 3.1 millimetres (0.10 to 0.12 inches) in width. Their body color ranges from pale reddish brown to darker reddish brown. This species can be told apart from other North American Copelatus species by its 8 or 9 discal striae. The species is distributed across central and southern United States, spanning from North Carolina west to California, and from Texas and Florida north to South Dakota and Michigan. There are also recorded populations in southern Ontario. Two subspecies are recognized: the western subspecies Copelatus chevrolati renovatus, and the eastern subspecies Copelatus chevrolati chevrolati.
