The shell of Conus sponsalis Hwass, 1792 ranges in size from 12 mm to 34 mm. The body whorl has slightly convex sides, and is wide at the somewhat rounded shoulder. The shell is yellowish white in color, with a small number of chestnut or red zigzag longitudinal markings. These markings form an interrupted broad upper band, and often also form a narrower lower band. The base of the shell is violaceous. This cone snail species has been recorded in Aldabra, Chagos, the Mascarene Islands, Mozambique, the Red Sea, and the West Coast of South Africa. It is also found off the coast of New Zealand, and off the coast of Australia in New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.
