About Conus scalaris Valenciennes, 1832

This species, Conus scalaris Valenciennes, 1832, has a shell whose size ranges between 23 mm and 80 mm. Its elevated spire is gradate and marked with chestnut-colored spots. The body whorl tapers to a point toward the lower end. The base color of the shell is yellowish white, with brown-chestnut longitudinal striations. The striations are barely interrupted by a narrow central white band, and are replaced toward the base by a few revolving rows of chestnut markings. This marine species is distributed in the Pacific Ocean, found from Baja California down to Costa Rica.
