About Conus purus Pease, 1863
The adult shell of Conus purus ranges in size from 44 mm (1.7 in) to 68 mm (2.7 in). The shell base color is white, with a tented pattern tinted reddish brown. The shell's spire can vary in shape from flat to conical, and ultimately tapers to a point. Every individual Conus purus has a unique shell form, color, and pattern. The soft body of the animal is tan with brown mottling, and its siphon has clearly distinguishable black, white, and red tips. This marine species is endemic to Hawaii, where it lives in shallow water at depths no greater than 4.6 m (15 ft).
