About Conus marmoreus Linnaeus, 1758

Adult shells of Conus marmoreus Linnaeus, 1758 range in size from 30 to 150 millimeters (1.2 to 5.9 inches). The spire is flattish and nodular, and the outer lip flares toward the posterior. This species has a characteristic reticulated color pattern that varies widely: it can appear as black with white dots, or orange with white reticulations arranged to leave large, rounded triangular white spots exposed. The aperture is white or light pink. This species is distributed through the Indian Ocean off Chagos and Madagascar, the Bay of Bengal off India, the western Pacific Ocean extending to Fiji and the Marshall Islands, and off the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia regions of Australia.
