The shell of Conus litteratus Linnaeus, 1758 ranges in size from 24 mm to 186 mm. This species has a thick, heavy shell with a flat spire. The shell has a cream base color, with 2 to 3 axial bands of yellow or orange that are dotted with black. This species lives in sandy areas within and around corals in shallow water. It is a widespread species native to the Indo-Pacific region, and can be found in the Indian Ocean off the coasts of Tanzania, Madagascar, and in the Mascarene Basin.
