About Conus distans Hwass, 1792
The shell of Conus distans Hwass, 1792 ranges in length from 30 mm to 137 mm. The shell is yellowish fawn in color, and has faint white bands across its middle and upper regions. In some individuals, these bands are not continuous, and instead form irregular oblique markings. The body whorl is surrounded by faint impressed lines, and is stained with a violet-chestnut color near its base. The low spire is convex, and bears fairly obtuse, rounded tubercles. The interior of the shell is white, with a light violet stain. This marine species is found in the Red Sea, the tropical Indo-West Pacific region, and off the coasts of Papua New Guinea and Australia, specifically in the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia.
