About Conus coronatus Gmelin, 1791

This species, known by the scientific name Conus coronatus Gmelin, 1791, has a small, squat, heavy shell that ranges in size from 15 mm to 47 mm. Slight nodules are present on the shoulders of its whorls. The shell has a light base color, with a mottled pinkish-blue pattern marked by brown dots and blotches. The aperture of the shell is purple-brown. This marine species is distributed across the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean off the coasts of Madagascar, Chagos, the Mascarene Basin, and Aldabra, the tropical Indo-West Pacific region, and the waters off New Zealand and Australia. In Australia, it is found in New South Wales, the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia. It inhabits shallow water, where it is most often found under boulders.
