About Conus biliosus (Röding, 1798)

The shell of an adult Conus biliosus ranges in size from 25 mm to 64 mm. Smaller shells are smooth, with striations on the lower portion. The shell base color is yellowish white, marked with revolving rows of quadrangular chestnut-colored spots. These spots sometimes form partial cloudy patches that create bands of chestnut clouding. The spire of the shell is spotted. This species is distributed across the Western Indian Ocean, ranging from South Africa to Somalia, and also occurs in waters off India and Sri Lanka. In the Pacific Ocean, it is found from Indonesia to the Philippines, extending to Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Queensland, and the Northern Territory, Australia.
