About Conus abbreviatus Reeve, 1843
This species, Conus abbreviatus Reeve, 1843, has a shell with spots that are more widely spaced and arranged somewhat more regularly than the spots on the shell of Conus miliaris. The species is found off the Hawaiian Islands, at a depth of 40 feet, where it lives on coral sand. Like all snails in the genus Conus, Conus abbreviatus is predatory and venomous. These snails can sting humans, so live individuals should be handled carefully, or not handled at all.
