About Conostomum tetragonum (Hedw.) Lindb.

Conostomum tetragonum, commonly known as helmet-moss, is a species of bryophyte that occurs in Europe. Its shoots reach a maximum height of 2 centimeters. The leaves are shaped like narrow spearheads and end in a sharp point. Its capsules are nearly spherical and measure 2 millimeters long. This moss grows best in acidic, rocky mountain soils, particularly in locations that remain covered by snow for most of the year, and also grows on summit ridges. It can be found in continental Europe and Scotland; it became extinct in England during the 1950s.
