About Conocybe tenera (Schaeff.) Kühner
Conocybe tenera is a small saprotrophic mushroom. Its cap ranges from conic to convex in shape, has a smooth orangish brown surface, and reaches up to 2.5 centimetres (1 in) wide. Cap striations extend almost to the center of the cap. The stem is 3 to 9 cm (1+1⁄4 to 3+1⁄2 in) long, 1–4 mm thick, and maintains a consistent width along its entire length, sometimes developing a slight swelling at the base. The stem does not have an annulus (ring), is hollow, and has a pruinose texture near its top. The gills are adnexed, start pale brown, and darken as the mushroom ages. This species produces a rusty brown spore print. Its spores are yellowish brown, smooth, elliptical with a germ pore, and measure 12 x 6 μm. It is common in disturbed areas of North America, and is widely distributed across the globe.
