About Conocephalum salebrosum Szweyk., Buczk. & Odrzyk.
Conocephalum salebrosum Szweyk., Buczk. & Odrzyk. is a species of liverwort, a type of non-vascular land plant. It has a broad holarctic distribution, and has multiple common names: snakewort, snakeskin liverwort, cat-tongue liverwort, mushroom-headed liverwort, and great scented liverwort. This species belongs to the Conocephalum conicum complex, a group that includes several cryptic species within the genus Conocephalum. C. salebrosum grows in shaded to part-shade wet or moist habitats, most often on rock surfaces or thin soil. It is commonly found across North America, where it occurs in moist, shaded, calcareous habitats. Compared to Conocephalum conicum, C. salebrosum has higher desiccation tolerance and is able to grow in areas that receive less shade.
