About Congrogadus subducens (Richardson, 1843)
The carpet eel-blenny (Congrogadus subducens), also called the green wolf eel or green wolf eel blenny, is a relatively large species of dottyback. It occurs in coastal areas of the Indo-West Pacific, and lives in coral reefs, around rocks, seagrass beds, tidal flats, and brackish habitats. Despite its common names, it is not related to the true wolf eel of the North Pacific, true eels of the order Anguilliformes, or true blennies of the suborder Blennioidei. This is the largest dottyback species, reaching a maximum length of 45 cm (1 ft 6 in). Its colour is highly variable: it can be green, brown, black, or bluish, and often has spots or blotches. The carpet eel-blenny can change its colour to match its surroundings. It occasionally enters the marine aquarium trade, but it is predatory and feeds on crustaceans and smaller fish.
