About Cominella lineolata (Lamarck, 1816)
The shell of Cominella lineolata ranges in length from 20 mm to 39 mm. It is smooth and spindle-shaped, with an elongated, pointed spire and a short siphonal canal. The oval aperture is quite large. The entire outer lip is marked with deep violet lines that are crossed by white lines. The columella, along with the edge of the right lip, is smooth and bright yellow. The external ground color of the shell is greenish brown, marked with black bands. These definite transverse striae are spaced at regular intervals, with six to eight visible on the body whorl. The operculum is very small, unguiculated, pointed, and reddish brown. This marine species is found off the coasts of New Zealand and Australia, where it occurs in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia.
