About Comadia redtenbacheri Hammerschmidt, 1848

Comadia redtenbacheri is a moth species that belongs to the family Cossidae. This species is distributed across North America, with confirmed records from Mexico and southern Texas. It was first formally described and named in 1848 by Austrian entomologist Carl Eduard Hammerschmidt, who lived from 1800 to 1874. Hammerschmidt named the species to honor his colleague Ludwig Redtenbacher, who lived from 1814 to 1876. For male individuals, forewings measure 12 to 14 mm in length, while female forewings are slightly larger, ranging from 13 to 16 mm. Adult moths have been observed in flight during two periods: April to May, and September. This moth species lays its eggs near the base of Agave leaves.
