Columbella strombiformis was first described by Lamarck in 1822. The shells of this species grow to between 20 and 30 millimetres (0.79 to 1.18 inches) in size. This species can be found in the Northern Sea of Cortèz, and along the Pacific coast of the Americas from Western Mexico to Peru.
