About Colomerus vitis (Pagenstecher, 1857)

This mite species was originally published as Colomerus vitis (Pagenstecher, 1857), and is also referred to as Eriophyes vitis. It is commonly called the grape erineum mite or blister mite. This mite infects the leaves of Vitis vinifera, the common grape vine. The species has spread globally and has three distinct strains: one that causes leaf curling, one that causes blisters, and one that stunts bud growth. It acts as a vector for both grapevine pinot gris virus and grapevine inner necrosis virus. In areas near Grabouw, South Africa, this species is found associated with another mite, Tydeus eriophyes, on grapevines.
