About Collinsia grandiflora Douglas ex Lindl.
Collinsia grandiflora Douglas ex Lindl. is an erect annual herb that grows to a maximum height of around 35 centimeters. Before flowering, it produces a thin stem and narrow leaves, giving it a grass-like appearance. It bears a showy inflorescence arranged in interrupted levels; each level forms a row holding one to several flowers. Each pea-shaped flower is just over one centimeter wide, and is bright purple with white upper lips. Its fruit is a capsule that holds four seeds. This species is relatively small overall, but its structural features are larger than those of most other Collinsia species, which is the origin of its common names.
