About Colias occidentalis Scudder, 1862

Colias occidentalis, commonly known as the western sulphur or golden sulphur, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Pieridae. It is found in North America, with a range covering the Pacific Northwest and portions of British Columbia. Adults of this species are active in flight from late May to early July. Its typical habitats include ocean bluffs, forest openings, mountain slopes, and subalpine meadows. This butterfly has a wingspan ranging from 50 millimetres (2.0 inches) to 53 millimetres (2.1 inches). The larvae of Colias occidentalis feed on the flowers of plant genera including Vicia, Lupinus, Lathyrus, and Thermopsis.
